If you are trying to get into ketosis, you need to eat very low carbs, so you aren't getting many calories from carbs. Here's my understanding of his perspective. I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong and that means questioning everything until I understand it. Now I'm back on strict keto and losing weight, but nowhere near as fast as the first time. I lost a lot of weight when I first started, but became fickle and gained most of it back. Maybe the understanding of the diet has changed a lot since I started. I'm not trying to argue - I'm just trying to understand/follow the myriad of information on the subject. I thought that was the reason people on Keto maintained around a 1:2 ratio of protein to fat (60% Fat, 35% Protein, 5% Carbs according to the sidebar overview page). When I started keto around four years ago I was told by people in this subreddit that it was the same for protein eating more protein than fat would cause your body to prioritize that for energy instead. The average modern diet gets a surplus of carbs, but when you minimize that in favor of a fat surplus, your body switches to ketosis to utilize that instead. From what I understood, the basic premise of keto was that your body will burn whatever is most convenient for energy. I try to educate myself but there are so many conflicting sources (I'm not talking about High-Carb vs Keto - I'm talking within the ketogenic community) that I end up filtering it out for in favor of layman's explanations.Įating excess protein won't make you burn muscle mass (if that is what you were trying to say). I love keto and I've been on it for quite some time to varying success, but I'm not a nutritional scientist. ![]()
